A HEALTHY MINDSET
Read Col. 3:1-4
What is the reason God would instruct us to “set our minds on things above.” Does He want us to ignore or forget the duties and realities of this life and live in some state of numbness to our daily thoughts? Are we to only speak heavenly thoughts in heavenly “words?”
In our text the recipients of this letter were confused about what is real and what isn’t. Which is more real, the physical or the spiritual? For us we are often confused with how we are to “think” about life. Numerous times in Scripture we are instructed to “think” a certain way.
Research has validated that our brains functions differently when processing different thought patterns. Our brain seems to “like” or function healthier when is processing balanced truth. Some would say that it will “reprogram” itself if we routinely input balanced truth.
Our brains and our bodies function better when we are aligning our thoughts with God’s thoughts. By setting my “mind” on things above, I am keeping my values, and choices aligned with God’s. I am living and thinking “eternally.” Wouldn’t it be great if we could sit next to God and see things exactly the way He does? If we keep our “minds” set on Him, input His thoughts, values, choices, and purposes – we will be living as close to that perch as we can get.
