Rebekah Puryear

As a therapist, I am dedicated to being your partner in understanding and addressing your concerns, setting goals, and identifying your strengths as you move toward healing and growth. In today’s uncertain world, I aim to help clients find their footing and navigate their future, and I am honored to be part of that process—both in times of difficulty and in times of hope.
My passion for therapy began as a teacher and summer camp counselor with a desire to support teens dealing with self-harm, depression, and anxiety. In my years of practice, I have also found a passion for working with adults facing self-esteem issues, trauma, difficulties with boundaries, communication challenges in relationships, and questions of identity and meaning. I welcome clients of all backgrounds and identities, offering faith-based counseling at the client’s discretion and support for those navigating religious trauma. I also affirm and support members of the LGBT+ community.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas with a Master of Arts in Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Texas. I am trained in EMDR, as well as the Gottman Method, Level 1.
In my approach, I prioritize compassion, authenticity, and collaboration to strengthen the counselor–client relationship, which research has shown to be one of the strongest indicators of success in therapy. I am especially drawn to existential and humanistic perspectives, which emphasize purpose, meaning, and the healing power of the therapeutic relationship. I also integrate techniques from EMDR, cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and solution-focused therapy to create a tailored, holistic, and culturally competent approach for each client.
I was raised in Angleton, a town just south of Houston. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, reading fiction, baking, running, and listening to true crime podcasts. Community is very important to me, so I also love to spend a night in with friends and my cats.
