Trauma-Informed Therapy in Houston

Because what happened to you matters...but it doesn’t have to define you.

Trauma isn’t just the big, obvious moments.

It’s the thousand smaller ones too...the times you felt unsafe, unseen, unheard. It’s the experiences your body still remembers, even when your mind tries to move on. Maybe you don’t think of it as “trauma,” but you feel it: the constant tension, the emotional shutdown, the fear of being vulnerable, the exhaustion from holding it all together.

At Renewing Hope Counseling, we help you understand how trauma shapes your thoughts, emotions, relationships and, more importantly, how you can heal from it. You don’t have to relive the past to be free from it. Healing begins when you feel safe enough to stop surviving and start living again.

What Is Trauma-Informed Therapy?

Trauma-informed therapy recognizes that many of the symptoms people struggle with - anxiety, depression, perfectionism, people-pleasing, emotional numbness - are adaptive responses to what’s happened to them.

Our approach is built on one essential principle: safety first.

We focus on helping you:

  • Understand your body’s stress responses and why you react the way you do.

  • Rebuild a sense of safety, stability, and trust in yourself and others.

  • Develop practical tools to regulate your emotions and nervous system.

  • Rewrite the internal stories trauma has told you about who you are.

How We Treat Trauma at Renewing Hope

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to trauma work. Our therapists use a combination of evidence-based methods and compassionate presence to help you heal at your own pace.

Our trauma-informed approaches include:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): Helps the brain process and integrate painful memories.

  • Somatic and Mind-Body Techniques: Reconnects the body and mind to release stored tension.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Parts Work: Helps you understand and heal the “inner parts” that carry pain, shame, or fear.

  • Cognitive Behavioral and Narrative Therapies: Brings perspective and clarity to past experiences.

  • Faith-Integrated Counseling (optional): Invites grace, meaning, and spiritual renewal into your healing process.

We go at your pace. You stay in control. Healing happens through choice, not pressure.
